Casting call: Local agent looking for a few good extras. Are you an attractive yuppie? Do you own fine formal attire? Could you pass for a male exotic dancer? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then Jodi Purdy-Quinlan wants to hear from you. The Weymouth-based casting agent is seeking extras for a romantic comedy called “Bride Wars.” But her open casting call – which will be held this coming Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Maria Weston Chapman Middle School in Weymouth – is about more than finding locals to share the screen with Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway. Purdy-Quinlan has been casting extras in the Boston area on a freelance basis for years. Now, due in large part to film-friendly tax incentives that first took effect in 2006, she is a casting associate (and essentially the entire Boston office) for New York-based agency Grant Wilfley Casting Inc. 12/03 Under the Whale
Dinner was served in the Hall of Biodiversity (a.k.a. the plant room), which was appropriately decorated with floral Cavalli print table linens, per the evening’s “Enchanted Forest” theme. “I used to come here all the time when I was a Jersey girl,” said Hathaway, who grew up in Millburn, N.J. Dessert and dancing followed underneath the 60-foot blue whale in the Hall of Ocean Life, where scores of youngsters including Jessica Stam and Lily Donaldson mingled amid silent auction items. Did Cavalli have plans to bid on anything? “Auction?” the designer asked his handlers, clearly unaware he’d donated the evening’s grand prize – tickets to his next show in Milan, several dresses, some men’s clothes, and lunch at the Just Cavalli Café in Milan. “We like to keep everything a surprise for him,” said one of his prs.
06/03 Anne Hathaway Adds To Resume With “Get Smart”
Actress Anne Hathaway isn’t your typical young Hollywood star that hops from club to club every night. Instead, the 25-year-old who had her big break in Disney’s “The Princess Diaries,” keeps a low profile and has her sights set on being a leading lady. Hathaway, who has already been compared to leading lady Julia Roberts, will next be seen with Steve Carell in the secret agent flick “Get Smart.” The movie is set to be released June 20. Hathaway has also been compared to actresses Judy Garland and Audrey Hepburn and claims Hepburn as her favorite actress. Although Hathaway’s fame came as the klutzy-turned-royal Mia Thermopolis in “The Princess Diaries,” she has also taken on grown-up roles in dramas such as “Brokeback Mountain” and comedies like “The Devil Wears Prada.” Following “Get Smart,” she will appear in the horror movie “Passengers” which will be released in September. Her future projects include a dark comedy called “Dancing With Shiva” and a wedding story with Kate Hudson called “Bride Wars.”
05/03 Hathaway’s dream role
Actress Anne Hathaway was desperate to land a role in the big-screen remake of Get Smart – because she pretended to be in the TV show as a youngster. The Devil Wears Prada star’s dream came true when she was cast as Agent 99 in the 2008 film adaptation of the 1970s series, after years of acting out the part during her childhood. She says, “I was a huge fan of Get Smart when I was a kid. “I used to stay up late to watch the reruns and then spend the next day pretending to be Agent 99.”
