Anne Hathaway has been asked to retrieve her pet dog from the New York apartment she shared with jailed ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri. Hathaway ditched the Italian businessman earlier this month, after discovering his unscrupulous business dealings, and fled their Trump Tower apartment, leaving behind two year old chocolate Labrador Esmerelda. According the New York Post, the pooch is being cared for at the pad by Follieri’s mother, who is in New York undergoing cancer treatment – and unable to look after her properly. A source tells the newspaper, “He (Follieri) can’t afford a dog-walker and his mother has cancer. I feel bad for the dog. She’s a beautiful, sweet dog.” Follieri, 29, has been charged with a dozen counts of federal wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering. He is behind bars until he can post $21 million (GBP10.5 million) bail.

Actress Anne Hathaway’s good looks are enough to intimidate women far beyond her native U.S. The Get Smart stunner was filming her spy-themed flick on a set in Russia, and was left stunned after a frightening run-in with a local girl, who convinced the actress was out to take her man. Hathaway says, “I was waiting to do this one shot and this (Russian) girl comes up to me… she’s got a bottle in one hand and she pushes me and says something, no clue what. “She thought I either stole her boyfriend or she just did not like the look of me. So all of a sudden these two security guards from our movie come out of nowhere, pick her up by the arms, and she was gone. And I was advised not to ask any questions.”

Follieri was also arrested earlier this year for passing a bad cheque and was sued by a former business partner in 2007. But his spokesperson insists the Italian businessman is “angered” by “repeated mischaracterisations” of his breakup with Hathaway – because the split was amicable. The rep tells the New York Post, “It is worth noting, as you continue to attempt to scandalise a respected businessman and philanthropist, that the Follieri Foundation has vaccinated hundreds of children in Nicaragua and Honduras to date, in addition to recently rebuilding an orphanage in Brazil.”
