Hathaway Joins “Chasing The Green Light”
Academy Award-nominated actress Anne Hathaway, who appeared in the 2009 Shakespeare in the Park production of Twelfth Night, will be part of the Public Theater’s Oct. 18 Chasing The Green Light Public Forum event. Chasing the Green Light is the inaugural event in the new Public Forum series, which explores issues related to works presented at the Public Theater. The Oct. 18 event dovetails with the Elevator Repair Service production of Gatz, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married, Princess Diaries) will conclude the 90-minute evening with a reading of Zelda Fitzgerald’s letter to her husband. As previously reported, Sam Waterson, who appeared as Nick Carraway in the film of The Great Gatsby, will host the evening dedicated to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic novel, the author’s personal life and the current state of the American dream. A roundtable discussion will feature Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson composer and lyricist Michael Friedman; Bright Lights, Big City author Jay McInerney; Pulitzer Prize-winning Topdog/Underdog playwright Suzan-Lori Parks; and Gossip Girl writer Cecily von Ziegesar. The event will also feature a discussion with Huffington Post editor-in-chief Arianna Huffington and National Review contributor Reihan Salam. Jeremy McCarter will curate the evening.

Hathaway and Gyllenhaal open AFI Fest galas
One of the most respected film festivals in the US, the American Film Institute’s AFI Fest announced its eight red carpet gala screenings for the upcoming 24th annual event in Los Angeles, November 4-11. The opening night selection is the world premiere of Love and Other Drugs, directed by Edward Zwick (Blood Diamond) and starring Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal as mismatched lovers. Black Swan starring Natalie Portman and directed by Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler) will close the eight-day event. The premier film festival attracts film industry players and actors with the American Film Market occuring concurrently in nearby Santa Monica and is attended by 7,000 people from 70 countries. AFI Fest is the only US film festival with a FIAPF (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films) accreditation.

‘Love and Other Drugs’ opening AFI Fest
Love and Other Drugs, a romantic comedy starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, will premiere Nov. 4 as the opening-night gala film for the American Film Institute’s AFI Fest 2010. Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, which is generating awards heat after appearances at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, will close the festival Nov. 11. Drugs director Ed Zwick and Aronofsky are alumni of the AFI Conservatory. The festival will screen at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the Mann Chinese 6 Theatres, the Egyptian Theatre and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. It runs concurrent to the American Film Market, which runs Nov. 3-10.
