Quoting Annie
“I gave up my struggle with perfection a long time ago. That is a concept I don't find very interesting anymore. Everyone just wants to look good in the photographs. I think that is where some of the pressure comes from. Be happy. Be yourself, the day is about a lot more.”

SEVEN REASONS WHY WE LOVE ANNE HATHAWAY
by Andrea Pyros
Anne Hathaway is not only smart, talented, and opinionated, but she’s also not afraid to admit to chowing down on some chocolate to nurse a broken heart (our kind of girl). Needless to say, we were more than a little psyched to speak with her about her latest film, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Here are just a few reasons why we predict the 21-year-old will become one of your favorite young actresses, too.
1) She’s Gracious • When asked about making The Princess Diaries 2, she raved about the cast and crew more than anything else. And though she nonchalantly swears that love scenes like the ones with her hunky co-stars Callum Blue and Chris Pine are just “skin touching skin” (she did, after all, share a bathroom with 10 guys in college), she admits that she had fun with them both.
2) She’s Not Afraid to Show Admiration for Her Peers • Usually when you ask an actress who she looks up to, older names like Audrey Hepburn and Meryl Streep come up. While Anne cites both movie stars as major influences, she also names actors her own age like Kristen Dunst. “I admire her career choices,” she explains.
3) She’s Intelligent • Even though Anne could have spent all her time in Hollywood after her career blew up post-Princess Diaries, she chose to attend Vassar College in upstate New York. She’s only five semesters short of her degree and swears she’ll be finishing it, maybe at another school, as she continues her career. Anne was also the first and only teenager to ever be accepted into the prestigious acting program at the Barrow Group in New York.
4) She Has Influence • In one scene in Princess Diaries 2, Anne’s character, Princess Mia, stops to speak with a group of young orphans. When I told her the moment was touching, Anne was excited. “That was my idea! I thought it was important to show Mia with the people.”
5) She’s Socially and Politically Aware • Anne’s been vocal about her belief that the world can be a better place if everyone does something. Shot recently at the Teen Choice awards wearing a T-shirt with the slogan, “FedUp: We Need Freedom and Unity,” Anne is at her most passionate when talking about women and voting. “We’re 51% of the population, can you imagine if all women went out and voted?” Though she’s personally a John Kerry supporter, she said her focus was less on speaking out for Kerry and more about encouraging other women to do their own research to find out which candidate they think would serve their needs better and to vote for them.
6) She’s Got a Great Sense of Humor • Though she was nursing a “broken heart,” which according to her, involved some serious chocolate therapy, she was still able to laugh and talk about how much fun she’s been having promoting the movie.
7) She Likes Her Body • In an industry where women feel a ton of pressure to look a certain way, Anne insists that she likes herself the way she is: “I spent a long time when I was younger not liking my body or looks, but now I realize there are more important things to worry about than whether I am a size 4 or 6 or whatever. I mean, please!”
